Leanne began her career at Waikato Hospital as a clinical pharmacist. Since then, her career has spanned clinical practice, governance, research, and iwi development, and she is dedicated to weaving together clinical excellence, cultural safety, and Indigenous knowledge. Leanne is co-lead of the National Clinical Renal Network and helps lead the National Cardiovascular Kidney Metabolic Guidance. She qualified as one of Aotearoa’s first pharmacist prescribers working in general practice, medical clinics, and marae settings, as well as alongside rongoā practitioners. Dr Te Karu is committed to optimising the use of medicines to improve health outcomes and reduce harm for whānau across the motu.
