Kidney supportive care (KSC) is a key component of nephrology care that should be in place throughout the CKD care continuum. However, sometimes it does feel like an abstract concept that’s hard to gasp. If you’ve been wondering what’s the essence of kidney supportive care, and how can you help in your role, join us for an in-depth discussion on recognising barriers and enablers in clinical practice, symptom screening and management, difficult conversations, and advance care directives. We hope to provide you a safe and inspiring environment to share learnings from each other’s experience, and to equipt you with practical skills that can be useful to your everyday practice.

ECG abnormalities are common in patients with kidney disease but not all Nurses receive training in ECG interpretation in the nephrology setting. This session is designed to review the basics of electrocardiography and provide a systematic approach for rhythm analysis and 12 lead ECG interpretation.

The “Renal Diet” has been cancelled: So, what do we tell patients about food?

Nutrition in Kidney Disease is changing. The traditional “Renal Diet” is fast becoming a thing of the past as we move towards a healthier, wholefood approach. Legumes, nuts, wholegrains, fruits and vegetables are back on the menu, and ultra-processed foods, additives, plant-based diets and gut health are all new areas of focus. The increased use of medications such as Ozempic are also influencing patients’ diets.

This can be a challenge for nursing staff who are often having conversations with patients about what they are eating, and have long had to focus on what patients should not eat. So how do we change our conversations with patients to reflect the latest evidence?

In this workshop we will go over the current evidence for nutrition in CKD, and how we communicate this with patients. Breakout sessions will focus on how we implement the most up to date evidence when having conversations with patients about hyperkalaemia, hyperphosphatemia, weight loss, fluid management and other issues you find challenging.

Have you ever wanted to undertake a research or QI project and didn’t know where to start? Join us in this learning lab to understand the principles of research methodology, advocate for change based on evidence-based practice and become a leader in healthcare research.
