Pre-Conference Workshops

Make the most out of your time at the RSA Conference. Our workshops will be hands-on, interactive sessions where delegates can actively engage in learning and skill-building activities. Each workshop will be designed to provide practical and experiential learning opportunities, focusing on the specific topic, skill, or technology relevant to your session.

Pre-Conference Workshops are an additional fee to your conference registration. Workshops can be booked via the Registration Portal.

Workshops will be held on Wednesday 17 June 2026 from 0830 – 1200

Workshop 1: Vascular Access

ARM (Assessment, Review and Mapping of Vascular Access) Workshop

Facilitator/s: Karyn Marshall, Anthony Veeraraghavan, Jose Nicolas, Vinish Thekkoot & Jayson Catiwa

Overview

This practical workshop will guide delegates through the fundamental and advanced components of vascular access assessment in haemodialysis, with a strong focus on integrating ultrasound into routine clinical practice. Participants will learn how to assess fistulas and grafts, identify common issues, and perform structured arm scans to support identification of normal anatomy, early detection of issues and access complications. Through hands-on practice and real-time demonstrations, this session aims to build confidence and competence in performing vascular access assessments that enhance patient safety and haemodialysis outcomes.

Key Takeaways

  • Perform structured patient arm assessments, including mapping and documentation.
  • Understand the principles of ultrasound and develop practical skills in ultrasound use for AVF/AVG assessment and cannulation.
  • Critically evaluate vascular access findings using integrated clinical and ultrasound data to inform decision making.

Interactive Component

  • Guided vascular access assessment stations (palpation, auscultation, flow assessment with ultrasound).
  • Hands-on ultrasound scanning practice on simulated arms and/or volunteers.
  • Facilitator-led demonstrations with opportunities for delegates to repeat techniques and receive feedback.
  • Small-group case-based discussions using real patient scenarios.
