Abstract:

Context:

Metro North Kidney Health Service (KHS) provides care for over 300 chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) patients across a 400km² area with 10 facilities. The KHS nursing education team, consisting of five part-time staff, faces challenges in delivering specialized kidney health education. To improve communication and collaboration among multidisciplinary teams, and ensure equitable access to educational resources, a regular online newsletter, The Pee-Ducation Digest, was launched.

Methods:

An online newsletter was created using available electronic resources to deliver CKD/ESKD-focused education to KHS clinicians. The newsletter includes a CKD/ESKD journal club, clinical case studies, clinical resources, online communities, and professional development courses, as well as staff achievements and service updates.

Results:

A survey of KHS employees revealed positive feedback, with respondents praising the newsletter’s relevance and content. Most recommended expanding the clinical education resource database and enhancing interactivity. The newsletter averages 300 views per issue, facilitating consistent support and information sharing for nursing staff across KHS.

Lessons Learned:

Engaging a diverse staff cohort across multiple centres proved challenging. However, feedback indicates the newsletter’s potential to become a vital resource for nursing staff. Future goals include increasing engagement and awareness of the publication.
