Dr Michael C. Smith is a biomedical engineer who designs water-treatment technology for remote community dialysis.  Michael works for the non-profit Western Desert Dialysis (Purple House), where his focus is on developing water-saving medical technology for water-stressed Aboriginal communities.  Michael and his team won the 2022 NT R&D Excellence Award for the NT branch of the Australian Water Association for water-system designs and the 2023 Flinders University Distinguished Alumni Award for his contributions to Aboriginal health and wellbeing through improvements to medical technology.  Michael lives in Alice Springs with two precocious children in the shadow of the West MacDonnell Ranges.
