About Kimberley Renal Services
Kimberley Renal Services (KRS) is a leading Indigenous-managed renal healthcare provider in Western Australia, dedicated to addressing the high rates of chronic kidney disease (CKD) among Aboriginal people in the Kimberley region. Established in 2002 and operated by Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services (KAMS), KRS delivers culturally safe, community-based renal care that supports patients and their families throughout their healthcare journey.
With dialysis centres in Broome, Derby, Kununurra, and Fitzroy Crossing, KRS enables Aboriginal patients to receive treatment closer to home, reducing the need for relocation to urban centres such as Perth. The service provides a unique model of care with a focus on prevention of chronic kidney disease and a holistic approach, integrating prevention, early intervention, dialysis, transplant preparation, and post-transplant care.
KRS operates under a multidisciplinary model, employing General Practitioners, Nurse Practitioners, Renal Nurses, Aboriginal Health Workers and Aboriginal Care Coordinators to ensure comprehensive care. The organization places a strong emphasis on community engagement, patient education, and culturally appropriate services, recognising the importance of family and cultural connections in patient wellbeing.
Through ongoing collaboration with state agencies, and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services, KRS continues to advocate for innovative solutions to improve renal health outcomes in the region.
